Eh you'll be fine. I started at 20k in Beijing, but that was several years ago. As long as you keep living costs to 1/3 of gross income and eat cheap, you'll be good. Rent may be expensive, but food, transit, etc. is super cheap if you avoid the tourist/foreigner traps.
